Mikki's Diner

It's a snowy Tuesday morning in January. I stopped by my homespace, Mikki's, house. I was anxiously anticipating my ceremonial breakfast. It has been a wonderful tradition for several years. Hey, my motto....why make breakfast yourself when someone else can make it. I'm just kidding. I'm being a wiseguy. Oh, and if you have a kindle fire, place that on the table to listen to some sweet jazz, like Brian Culbertson. Wow!

Baking 101

Hi. Inspired by Semi-cooking expert,Sandra Lee, and after many YouTube videos, my son and I have made an attempt to make a cake like professionals make. I am not an expert in baking but I can surely say that I am very pleased with the results. We used. Betty Crocker's Supermoist yellow cake mix, which called for 3 eggs, 1/2 cup of vegetable oil and one cup of water. Once done, we used Hershey's milk chocolate icing.      The purpose of making this cake was for a friend's birthday. So, working from scratch was not ideal since I wanted her to actually eat the cake. Besides, the fancy mixers and creams professionals use on tv was absent. The other reason was that it was a learning experience my son and myself. I was curious on how bakers made their cakes completely round. My cakes tend to come out bevel or lopsided. The mystery behind it was that they used a turning cake pedestal and I didn't. I did not have one and was well into the cake making process to stop then r...

Eye Design

I'm really digging the way this model painted her eyes. This is going on my list if things to do. This eyeshot was noticed in Oprah Winfrey's 'O' Magazine- Holiday Issue. Yep, I was back in the dentist and looked through the magazine again. I can't help it. It was so colorful and it took my mind off of what was coming up (the dentist's drill gun) Aaargh!! I have to do some eyeliner shopping. Eyeliner makeup is the most used tool in facial design for me. I do not use any foundation since it feels like it clogs my pours. I'm sure there are products that are light and airy to use. This is where you come in! You can drop a line to recommend products. I am usually an eyeliner, eyeshadow, and lip balm type of girl. Colors make me smile.

More Office Fun

Still trying to be fun. Here's a few things in my surroundings. I have a dozen of these miniature fuzzy faces on my desk. In fact, the entire office does. We have a very special co-worker who is crafty and she creates these little guys for each holiday. Imagine sitting in front of these guys while working. Kinda makes you laugh, doesn't it?

Keeping Office Work Fun

Decided to change pens again. One doesn't have to spend a fortune to purchase a pen with eye-popping qualities. I can assure you that you can find the same satisfaction as dressing up your cell phone as you would when switching up with pen styles. You don't have to go to some high end office supply store. Stores like Dollar Tree and Family Dollar (or any bargain outlet) carries pens with lots of personality. The only thing you have to watch out for is co-workers stopping by your desk to borrow your pen and then stealing it away. Be very careful!

Pay it Forward

Two weekends ago a friend and I had coffee and pastries at the Au Bu Pain Cafe on Thayer Street in Providence, Rhode Island. Thayer Street is a quaint street located within the Brown University and caters to the college crowd and also visiting tourists from abroad (most here taking in sights since Providence is an artsy city). One other thing to recognize is that Thayer St is located near the RISD school, where some of the most talented pupils study and perfect the art of visual stimulation.      Moving on with my story. I was enjoying coffee and pastries with a friend. There was a homeless man staring through the glass from the alley side of the establishment. He was cold and appeared to be hungry. I was short on cash that day. My friend was low on cash as well. Once we were done eating we decided to buy him a pastry and a cup of coffee. My friend also gave him five dollars. He was very appreciative. We certainly felt good about it.
